The process of verifying vehicles is different in every province. But now, it has become easier than ever. The Federal Excise and Taxation Department developed and launched the Motor Transport Information Management System (MTMIS). With this system, it only takes a few minutes to check vehicle registration.

MTMIS is a computer system that has information on cars. It helps you figure out if the car is stolen or not. You can also get information about the person who owns the car, like their criminal history and traffic violations.

Official Website 

The easiest way to check a vehicle online is on the Official Website of the Excise and Taxation Department, ICT. Go to the website, then follow these steps:

  • On the main page, if you scroll down a little, you will see a list of "Online Services". This list is also available from the drop-down menu at the top of the page.
  • Click “Check Vehicle Detail”.
  • This will open up the registration page. Enter the Registration Number and the Registration Date to get a detailed response about that vehicle.

Private Apps 

Some private developers have made a mobile application that can help you check vehicle registration in Islamabad. 

But most of these applications have not been approved by the ICT or Excise and Taxation Department. So if you use them, be careful.

Personal Visits 

Visiting the office of the Excise and Taxation Department is another way to check ownership of a vehicle. The hours are between 9 am to 4 pm, so you can come with documents or registration numbers for checking your vehicle in Islamabad.

The Excise and Taxation Department in Islamabad is located in the HEC Building on Service Road E, near H-9/4. They can be reached at 051-9265588. You can talk to them about anything, like complaints and queries.

SMS 

If you want to find out the registration number of a car, you can send your vehicle's registration number to 8521. You might not get all the information immediately though.

The system might be slow or unresponsive. But if you are buying a car that is registered in Islamabad Capital Territory, there is no harm in trying this process before moving on to other methods.

You can find out some information about a vehicle if it is registered in Islamabad by following the online or SMS route. If you use an app, you will get more registration details.

After the issuance of chip-based National ID Cards, the Excise and Taxation Department also launched a chip-based Vehicle Registration Card that replaces registration books.
